10 years of Facebook overview

Yesterday, the largest social platform known to us hit a decade. To celebrate it's iconic birtday we'll overlook some of the most popular, liked posts and statistics. Lot's of us can not even imagine a life without Facebook and some of these facts will surely highlight that. Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook in his dorm room on 4th of Fabruary, 2004, no one, including himself, thought it would be such a world-beater. Nowadays, one out of six people uses Facebook, this means rougly 1.23 billion people opens their facebook accounts at least once a month. To break down the statistics thats 201 million people (16%) in U.S and Canada, 282 million people (23%) in Europe, 368 million people (30%) in Asia and 376 million people (31%) in the rest of the world.

The most active country by the number of users is of course America with nearly 159 million. The other top 5 countries are Brazil (72 million), India (62 million), Indonesia (nearly 48 million) and Mexico (42 million). The most liked photo of all time is President Barack Obama hugging his wife Michelle to celebrate his re-election in November, 2012. The photo received as many as 4.4 million "likes".

Facebook earns rougly $2.14 per user world-wide. The number of revenue for a single user is higher in U.S and Canada with $6.03 per person. It's not hard to calculate the profits which facebook is dealing, it's quickly becoming the biggest player in the industry. It is estimated that the average American user is 41 years old and has 228 friends. The statistics would of course vary in Europe and other regions. With the elections of a new christian leader, Pope Francis has become the most popular topic talked about on facebook in 2013.

350 photos are being uploaded on to facebook every single day. That is rougly one photo per four users. Therefore, the database of facebook has to maintain a significant amount of files. The average user spends somewhere around 7.75 hours on facebook per month, making it 39 days over 10 years. There are around 6 billion cliked "like" buttons everyday. The new research suggests that facebook is highly addictive and the statistics may agree with that, six out of 10 users visit facebook every day. Disneyland remains to be the most popular checked-in place in the site.

To sum up, the statistics clearly show more than impressive numbers for Mark Zuckerberg. One can only suspect that the popularity will only rise, reaching shocking numbers in the following years. The opponents must be sitting on there edge thinking what it takes to bring Zuckerberg and Facebook down.
